Hello Parents,

We are coming to a close on our school year.  I must say that this has been an unprecedented school year, to say the least.  We have successfully completed (almost completed) this year through a world wide pandemic.  My sincere thanks to all of our teachers and staff for their countless effort, dedication and commitment to ensure that our students still received a quality education despite all of the worries of being exposed or even diagnosed to Covid.  Our staff have been brave and courageous during these times.  My many thanks to our parents, families and students for believing in the Tropic Isles Family.  You have been gracious, appreciative and supportive throughout all of this.  That means to world to all of us.  We still have a little time before we go on a shortened summer break.  Please read the information below.

These next 3 weeks are very busy.  Starting June 1st, our Kindergarten-2nd grade students will be taking their end of the year, iReady Diagnostic.  It is important for our students to be in school and on time for these dates.  iReady will let us know how much progress our students have made through the year.

We have scheduled a water field day for all our students.  Water day will consist of water events for students to compete with their classmates.  We will also have a 22ft water slide, dunk tank and snow cones.  We will be following all Covid protocols to ensure our students are safe.  4th and 5th grade will be Monday, June 7th.  2nd and 3rd grade will be Tuesday, June 8th.  Kinder and 1st Grade will be Thursday, June 9th.   A flyer will be sent home with all the details along with what students need to bring to school on their day.  Students must bring a change a clothes and a towel.

In addition, we will be having awards ceremonies starting June 9th.  Our Headstart classes, Mrs. Weaver and Mrs. Nolff, will have a drive by celebration on June 9th from 6:00-7:00PM.  Our 5th Grade will have a drive by promotion ceremony on Monday, June 14th from 5:30-7:00.  This will include music, awards being passed out, hot dogs and drinks.  All our guests will remain in their vehicles.  Kindergarten will have their drive by celebration on Wednesday, June 16th from 6:00-7:00.  On Tuesday, June 15th, our 1st and 2nd grade classes will have a virtual awards program.   On Wednesday, June 16th, our 3rd and 4th grade classes will have a virtual awards program.  The virtual awards will take place in the morning.  A zoom link will be provided to all families to join the awards live from your computer.  An informational flyer will be sent detailing all this information.   All Lee Home Connect families are to return their chromebooks to the school the day after their child’s virtual awards program.

June 15th, 16th and 17th will all be early dismissal days.  We will dismiss at 1:10 on all 3 days.  Just a reminder, back packs will not be permitted to school on those 3 days.

I want to thank all of our parents who ensured that 3rd-5th grade students were in school during our testing days.  We are still finishing up testing, but we are almost finished.  We know with all the challenges this school year brought us, testing is another one of those challenges.  Despite all those challenges, our teachers and students persevered.  I am unsure as to whether we will receive a grade from the state, but I know in my heart that we will show significant gains from our students.   I want to personally thank 2 of my teachers for the countless hours of time they put into coordinating such a tremendous task: Danielle Von Behren and Katie Bragg.   Without their hard work and dedication (plus all the other tasks and responsibilities to students, teachers and the school), we would not have been successful.

Parents, please take this opportunity to enroll your student in our Summer Extended Learning Program.   This program starts June 24th and runs through July 23rd.  It’s an opportunity for your child to continue learning throughout the summer.  We encourage all of our families to sign up using the District google form: K-8 Expanded Virtual Learning Summer Program Survey.  It's only 45 minutes a week in Reading and Math at 70% rate passing or higher.   Please view a short video of the program listed on our website – to the left of this message.  Tropic teachers will be available to assist your child during the week virtually. Chromebooks will be provided!  Let's keep the learning alive throughout the summer!

I want to take this last moment to talk about next year.  We have a very shortened summer.  Our teachers return August 2nd.  Our students return August 10th.  We have much to do in a 5 week period of time.   We will be sending out information regarding Open House within the last 2 weeks of July.  For our new Kindergarten families, we will have a separate Open House just for you on Wednesday, August 4th.   We will do a five minute screening placement on your child to get some information.   You will get to meet all the Kindergarten Teachers and visit their classrooms.  By Monday,  August 9th, Kindergarten parents will be notified of their teacher.  It is very important for ALL of our Kindergarten parents to attend Open House.  All other open houses will be scheduled for Friday, August 6th.

We are still waiting on protocols for next school year.  Masks are still in effect until July 1st, 2021.  It is an expectation that everyone continue to wear their masks.  Next year, my understanding is that it will be voluntary.  We will be sure to get that information out to you as soon as we can.  We will, however, continue with our arrival and dismissal procedures as they currently stand.   There will be no getting out of cars during arrival and dismissal during the 2021-2022 school year.  Absolutely no parent walk up will occur.  I have observed a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal during this past year and this will continue.  I think everyone would agree that the safety and security of our students is number one.  I appreciate your understanding and compliance to this expectation.

It has been an honor serving the families and community of Tropic Isles.  Our school staff will continue to make every effort in ensuring a quality education for ALL of our students.  Together, everyone achieves more.

Sincerely,

Rob Mazzoli, Principal
