Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school!  It’s hard to believe that only 5 weeks ago we ended our school year and now we are embarking on another school year.  The 2021-2022 school year is only a few weeks away.  Our summer staff have been preparing feverishly to prepare for the opening of school.  Let me tell you, we are very excited.  I sure hope all of our students and families had time to relax and refresh this summer.  Just a reminder, school starts Tuesday, August 10th

We will still be following safety and health protocols set forth by the school district’s Pandemic Team.  Please note, for the 2021-2022 school MASKS ARE OPTIONAL. 

Our theme for this upcoming school year is, “Adventure Awaits…Learning Takes You Places”.  We are going to have “fun” with this theme this school year.  We will have school spirit shirts for purchase for only $10.00.  You can purchase a school spirit shirt during open house or anytime after that. 

Kindergarten Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, August 4th.  If your child’s last name is between A-L, open house will be 4:00-5:00PM and M-Z will be 5:00-6:00PM.  This date is ONLY for incoming Kindergarten students.  At Kindergarten Open House, parents will go through 3 center rotations.  One rotation will be a screening center.  We will ask you child a few questions to get some data on your child.  This will help us in placing your child with a teacher.  Please understand you will not be assigned a teacher when you arrive at open house.  You will be notified by your child’s teacher by Friday, August 6th welcoming your child.   It is important that you are on time and be patient with us as this will be a busy evening.  We will have a small presentation by myself and my Assistant Principal, Mrs. Rendon, as one of the rotations.  You will have the opportunity to see the kindergarten classes and meet the Kindergarten Team of teachers as well.  We will also have a transportation center to meet your transportation needs.

On Thursday, August 5th, we will have open house for our 1st-5th grade students.  If your child’s last name is between A-L, open house will be 5:00-6:00PM and M-Z will be 6:00-7:00PM.  We will have class lists posted with your child’s teacher.  You will then have the opportunity to have a meet and greet with your child’s teacher.  Your teacher will have a slide show looping on their Promethean Boards and a packet of information for you to fill out.  We will also have a transportation location for any of your transportation needs. 

Please note that due to safety and security, we are limiting the access to visitors during the school year.  We will follow the same procedures as we did last school year.  When coming to our office, we have a doorbell system with camera and sound.  You will be required to show your ID.  Please have your ID with you at all times.  Like last year, we are not allowing parents to park and walk their child to our drop off area.  Parents must remain in their vehicles when dropping off and picking up your child(ren).  There will not be any parent walk-up during the school year. 

UPDATE:  We will only allow Kindergarten parents to walk their child into the building the first day of school.  In order to do so, parents must receive a fast pass.  These were handed out during open house.  On the second day of school, parents may walk their child up to the gate.  By the third day of school, all parents must remain in their cars and go through our parent drop off line.  Please stay in your vehicles.  We will not be offering fast passes to parents for students in grades 1-5.    Only Kindergarten parents may walk in the building on the first day of school.

If you do not have a FOCUS account, PLEASE set one up right away.  All of our school wide messages to families are sent to the contacts listed in FOCUS.  Additionally, you will be able to access your child’s grades and attendance at any time.  If you have changed addresses or phone numbers, please notify the school at 995-4704 and ask for Lisa Coy.  She will help assist you.  We will have a FOCUS station set up to assist you at Open House. 

This school year, we will continue to follow the A, B, C, D’s.  A stands for attendance; B stands for Behavior; C stands for Classroom Success and D stands for Drop-Out Prevention.  We have systems and processes in place to ensure that quality teaching and learning are taking place.  With that being said, it is very important that your child attends school each and every day AND they are on time to school every day.  Our school hours are from 8:55-3:10.  Our gates open at 8:30 and we do serve breakfast every morning to all students.  This will be in a grab and go style.   We have many attendance initiatives to promote consistent attendance.  We need your help, parents, in ensuring your child is in school every day.  We always appreciate your support as it comes to your child’s education.  Please reinforce at home our STAR Expectations (S-safety first, T-take responsibility, A-active learning, R-respect others).  Together, we will make a difference in your child’s learning experience at Tropic Isles.

Please know that this website will be regularly updated with a message from me communicating upcoming events and other happenings at Tropic Isles.  There are many more wonderful links and resources on our webpage as well.  Please take some time to navigate through this site.  All staff have their contact information, so emailing a staff member is just a click of a button.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our Open Houses and to a wonderful start to our school year.

Welcome to Tropic Isles Elementary

Hello to all Star Harbor Families! The Star Harbor before and after-school program is closed for the remainder of this school year. We are still waiting to hear word from the school district regarding our Summer Camp program. 

 

In the meantime, if you have a balance in your account and would like us to issue a refund, please email the Director, Lisa Lombardo, at lisaal@leeschools.net or call her at 941-315-8366. If you would like for your balance to roll over to future usage, you do not need to do anything. 

 

All families who have a fifth grader will automatically receive a refund. All refund requests will be handled through this contact information and not through the school phone number. In order to expedite your refund, again, contact Lisa Lombardo at lisaal@leeschools.net or call her at 941-315-8366.
