Dear Parents,


The start of school is right around the corner.  Students return on Monday, August 31st in the instructional model you selected for your child..  We are all preparing to embark on a new journey…together.  Things will look much different as we start the 2020-2021 school year.  Please be patient with us as we start off the year.  I am going to highlight a few items for you. 


We had over 650 parents fill out the Instructional Model Survey.  That is an amazing turnout.  Thank you all so much.  This now helps us plan to schedule classes for the start of school.   If you did not fill out the instructional model survey, your child is automatically face to face instruction.  With that said, we will be sending home a postcard on Friday, August 21st.  This postcard will have your child’s teacher, Google Classroom code, QR codes to our website and forms for our fee based STAR Harbor Program and Car Tag Registration for Parent Pick-Up.   We will have a virtual Open House for Grades 1st-5th on Thursday, August 26th.  Times will be listed for each grade-level on the postcard.  We will also have a drive-up Open House for grades 1st – 5th  on Saturday, August 29th from 9:00AM-12:00PM.  We will have one representative from each grade-level at a station for you to pick up your child’s back to school packet.  Inside this packet will be forms for parents to fill out, information about the upcoming school year and stickers for your child to wear each day (with name and teacher’s name) for the first week of school.  We will have a station for Parent Pick Up Car Tag Registration, Bus Transportation and Star Harbor (our fee based Program) and Focus and School Messenger sign up.  We will have a separate Open House for Kindergarten on Tuesday, August 25th.  We will mail home postcards to our Kindergarten families on Wednesday, August 19th.  If you selected Lee Home Connect, we will be sending out information to those families about doing a virtual Open House (that is to be announced).  Please save these dates.


We are putting many protocols in place in response to COVID-19 and the district’s expectations outlined in the Re-Opening Toolkit.  School will look completely different.  First and most important, all staff and students MUST wear a face mask.  If you haven’t already done so, please work with your child on how to properly wear a face mask.  This has to be a team effort.  Students are not required to wear masks while eating.  Students must bring their masks to PE and recess but do not need to wear their mask while running or physically exerting themselves.  We will be rearranging our custodial crew’s schedule to accommodate the cleaning of our campus.  We will have strict cleaning protocols throughout the day.  Next, we will have one way traffic hallways throughout our campus.  We will have floor marking throughout the campus identifying traffic flow and proper social distancing.  We will be limiting the number of students in the cafeteria at one time with proper social distancing occurring in the lunchroom as well.   Parents and visitors will not be permitted inside of our campus.  Only school district employees will be able to enter the campus.  Classrooms will be arranged to provide proper social distancing when feasible.   We will be removing excess furniture to accommodate this.  I am confident that our teachers will create a positive classroom learning environment where students feel welcomed.  Our teachers are very creative…they will decorate their rooms nicely.  One more important difference is we will no longer be allowing Parent Walk-Up at the end of the day.  During our dismissal, all parents must remain in their car and drive through our car line and have a proper car tag. 


I am confident we will work though all of this.  We have to be in this together.  Please trust in us that we will take care of your precious children.   We will take every precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff.   We know this will only be temporary as the experts are researching 24/7 to find a cure to combat this pandemic.   We will rejoice when we get back to normalcy.  But until then, we have to stay strong and together.  I will continue to update this message on our website to provide you with current information.   Please be safe and let your children know we miss them and can’t wait to see them back at school.

Welcome to Tropic Isles Elementary

Hello to all Star Harbor Families! The Star Harbor before and after-school program is closed for the remainder of this school year. We are still waiting to hear word from the school district regarding our Summer Camp program. 


In the meantime, if you have a balance in your account and would like us to issue a refund, please email the Director, Lisa Lombardo, at or call her at 941-315-8366. If you would like for your balance to roll over to future usage, you do not need to do anything. 


All families who have a fifth grader will automatically receive a refund. All refund requests will be handled through this contact information and not through the school phone number. In order to expedite your refund, again, contact Lisa Lombardo at or call her at 941-315-8366.
