Action Meetings - April 23, 2024

Recognitions

The Board recognized:

  • Cadet Shayne Higginson of Fort Myers High School for winning the Army JROTC 6th Brigade (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Puerto Rico) Essay Contest. 
  • The Mariner High School JROTC Drill Team for winning the 2023-2024 Unarmed Squad - State Championship and South Fort Myers High School for being named 2023-2024 Dual Exhibition State Champions. 
  • 25 high school students for earning All-State honors and representing the District at the Florida Music Educations All-State Music Conference this past January in Tampa.

 

Consent Action Items

The School Board approved:

  • The lease agreements for the Class of 2024 graduation ceremonies at Suncoast Arena and Alico Arena. The May 16-21 graduation schedule is available here.
  • The Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) contract for the School Mapping Data Grant Program to assist first responders by providing school mapping data for each public school, including charter schools, in the District.
  • The Stronger Connections Grant to fund Project Engage!, an intervention framework for increasing student and family engagement, safe and healthy schools, and academic outcomes for students at academic risk; and to expand Grad Academy, the District’s full-time credit recovery program.
  • The Head Start-Early Head Start Annual Grant application to provide comprehensive and continuous services to low-income infants, toddlers, and their families and comprehensive continuous services to low-income infants, toddlers, and their families.
  • Negotiating a contract for Public-Private Partnership (P3) with Gulfpoint Construction to build Hector A. Cafferata Jr., K-8 School.
  • To piggyback Sourcewell RFP No. 041123, for both products and services for field and parking lot lighting improvements at Mariner High School, Ida S. Baker High School, and Lehigh Senior High School.
  • Funding for playground sunshades at G. Weaver Hipps Elementary, Dr. Carrie D. Robinson Littleton Elementary, Patriot Elementary, Pinewoods Elementary, Tanglewood Elementary, Tortuga Preserve Elementary and Villas Elementary School and covered structures at Diplomat Elementary School and Lexington Middle School.
  • Funding to replace the interior stage lighting and tennis court lighting at Cypress Lake High School, parking lot lighting at Lehigh Senior High School, and stadium step lighting at North Fort Myers High School.
  • A 10-year contract renewal for Oak Creek Charter School of Bonita Springs.
